Reiki energy is a Japanese practice that has existed for centuries in which the hands are placed onto or above the body to provide healing or bring spiritual insight. The energy is sent from the Universe into the practitioners body through the hands and directly into the receiving body.
Reiki is made of two words: "rei", meaning God's wisdom or Higher Power", and "ki" meaning "life force energy". Together, they combine to create a "spiritually guided life force energy".
Dr. Mikao Usui grew up under the ideas of Zen Buddhism with a fascination of Western culture. According to legend, this fascination lead him to the discovery of Reiki when he became physically ill and had a spiritual awakening leading him to a Zen monastery. He meditated for 21 days on Mt. Kurama with the set intention that he was open to seeing things clearly to gain full awareness and an understanding of the practice. It’s believed that he saw a bright light that flashed and rushed towards him bringing him spiritual enlightenment. After experiencing and witnessing the healing that Reiki energy could bring, he spent the rest of his life teaching others what he learned, and he called his style of practice Usui Reiki Ryoho.
Reiki is a natural and simple approach for healing and can be used by anyone as it has no ties to any religion. A Reiki treatment can provide you with spiritual or physical healing as the energy treats the entire person, including the body, mind, emotions and spirit. Reiki is known to be effective in helping with almost every known illness and provides a beneficial or therapeutic effect.
It's important to note that I, as the practitioner, am not doing anything. The recipient of Reiki draws in the energy themselves, and I'm simply acting as a conduit that allows the energy to enter into the clients body.
In all things, consent is important. To receive the Reiki into your life, you need to give it permission. To do so, follow this simple ritual:
Find a quiet space. While lighting a candle if you’re able, audibly invite in your spiritual team to the space (Spirit Guides, ancestors, Source, God, etc.). Place your hands on your heart chakra center, take three deep breaths, and when you're ready wear or hold your Reiki-infused crystal(s) or creation(s) in both palms. Close your eyes, and envision a bright white light starting to beam from your palms. With each inhale, envision the light starting to get brighter and larger until it encompasses your entire body. Once you’re fully submersed in light energy in your minds eye say the words, “I accept Reiki energy into my life. I allow Reiki to heal my mind, body, soul, and auric field. I activate this Reiki-infused crystal(s)/creation(s), and I accept Reiki gratefully.” Once the ritual is complete, drink a glass of water. Whenever you feel a disconnect from Reiki or want to amplify its energies, return to this ritual as Reiki will always be with you and your Reiki-infused item!
